ACCIDENT AT WAIHI.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
WAIHI, Monday. Further particulars of to-day's railway accident show that at about two o'clock this afternoon, about midway between WaJkino and Waihi while the engine, with a train of eighteeu trucks, Was coming , from Waikino to Waihi, one of the wheels of a truck containing bullion slimes, and upon ■which were sitting- Lewis and another employee named Weymouth, came off. The truck immediately jog-gled off the line. Weymouth and Lewis then sprang off the truck on to the engine; The former succeeded in getting- a footing on the engine, but the latter slipped and fell back on the line. Before the train could be stopped seven trucks passed over his right leg, about six inches above the ankle, crushing the limb frightfully. The boot on the other foot was torn off, but no injury was done to the foot, the wheel evidently passing over the heel only and tearing the boot from the foot. Dr. Giu'ness was quickly acquainted with the occurrence, and in the briefest time possible Avas conveyed by special engine to the scene of the accident. He made the sufferer as comfortable as circumstances would permit and had him brought up by train ta Waihi without delay and then on a stretcher to Nurse Gilmour's house.
