GRAFTON.
The annual meeting of householders was held at the school. Mr-A. Pollard was voted to the chair. The Chairman of the outgoing Committee read the report of the Committee for the past year, which was as follows: — "The * Committee has the honour to report to the householders of the district that the year ending 31 st of March has prbved highly satisfactory in the general results of the school work. The standards examination showed a high percentage of passes, and the examiner's report on the junior division of the school was very gratifying. At a subsequent inspection of the school the chief inspector reports that 'the school is in a high state of efficiency.' The school was again eminently successful at the annual district scholarships examination. Four of the scholars competed for scholarships, and of these three gained first, second and third places respectively in point of marks, securing two special scholarships attached to the Girls' High School, and one scholarship of the ordinary value, while the fourth competitor gained a certificate of proficiency. There have been but few changes in the staff during the year and the teachers have been untiring in their efforts on behalf of tha scholars. The interior of a large portion of the buildings has been thoroughly cleaned, painted, etc., and is now in very good order, and a handsome flagstaff has been erected In accordance with the Board of Education's regulations special attention has been given to military drill for the boys, and a cadet corps has lately been formed, which consists of a full complement of officers and 60 rank and file. The present roll number is 596 and the attendance this day 546. The accounts, duly audited, show the Committee's receipts to have been £126 9/9, and the expenditure £I,<* 4 9/8 leaving a balance on March 31st of £2 0/1." The report was adopted, bein"- considered very satisfactory. The "meeting then proceeded to elect the new Committee, and some dissatisfaction was felt' oh discovering that several gentlemen present were desirous of serving on the Committee but were not eligible, from the fact-that they were living just outside the boundary of the school district. The Chairman of the old Committee^(Mr S I Clarke) explained that the Committee had made efforts to have the boundaries, of the school district readjusted, but so far had not been successful Twelve nominations for Committee were received, and the result of the ballot was as under:—Mr S I Clarke 33 votes, Mr J.
