ROYAL RECEPTION DECORATIONS.
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —The Decoration Committee of the above have taken an entirely unwarrantable step by invoking the aid of the school children in weaving festoons together in "their school hours. The amount of education they receive is little enough, their time being broken with incessant holidays. As tlie examinations come off very shortly, will the plea, of those .that fail, that they were weaving garlands, suffice the inspector. I think not, and I am surprised to see the worthy chairman of our Schools Committee, and Messrs. Scott _ nnd Dickenson, lend themselves to this innovation. Perhaps the chairman and these loyal pedagogues think that with cramming and home work (which the inspector in his last report commented very strongly on) they will pull through. I ask, sir, is it fair to pupil:* at this time to stay their scholastic duties merely to satisfy* the whims of the Decoration Committee. Surely the 100 patriotic ladies of Parnell, coupled with those of other' districts, could in one week weave ample and better garlands.^-I am, etc., PONSONBY.
