(Signed) a GRANT, Secretary. (3P E"Y LYNN MAYORALTY. Ladies and Gentlemen,— Throughout my address and circulars, I have carefully abstained from any personalities, but my friend Mr R T. Warnock published an advertisement in Saturday's "Herald" and "Star" so full of misstatements about myself that I am compelled to challenge them. The majority are so manifestly absurd that I leave them for the Electors to answer from their own observations. But Mr Warnock states:^"Mr Shackelford seems to have a hazy idea that the combined scheme would be the best; to make this plain it would need a brick sewer some 7ft in diameter, costing, complete, between £25,000 and £30,000." Further, Mr Warnock states about Mr Metcalfs drainage scheme: "Mr Shackelford had the audacity to call it a mad brained scheme." I canrot understand how Mr Warnock' can make this statement, when he was at my public meeting and ought to know full well I did not advocate what he calls the "combined scheme with a costly brick sewer," or apply any such term as "mad brained" to "Mr Metcalfe's scheme." I leave the matter with the electors; many of them heard my address.—Yours, etc., JOHN W. SHACKELFORD. r\TAHUHU ROAD DISTRICT. GENERAL ELECTION.
