;.. Buchanan broke the small bone of his foot while-riding Laetitia in the Av.ondale Handicap, and had to be taken to. the-Hospital. - '■■:■'.-. In. our last issue we published an advertisement of the death pf Annie Helena, the daughter of Annie and the late Lawrence' Lorrigan. The usual precautions were taken, and there was nothing to suggest that the announcement was other than genuine. To-day,' however, we have received a letter from Mrs L. Lorrigan, who states.,that she is the mother of the child:referred to, and that the child is alive and well. It is possibly a singular coincidence, but. careful inquiry will be made, respecting the advertisement in question. The Hospital authorities report that the' man Howell, injured at the fire last night, has recovered' from the shock, and. is progressing favourably. Mr J. Court, a candidate, for Ponsonby \Vard, has an advertisement in another column. An inquest was held yesterday afternoon, before Mr Gresham, coroner, touching the death of John Shanaghan, -who died Suddenly on Thursday at Mrs Prior's boardinghouse, Abe.rcrifmbie-street. ; Dr. King deposed that death was due to shock, caused by over distension-of the bladder, and the jury'returned a verdict accordingly. Deceased was a veteran, and formerly belonged to the 65th Reginient. He resided at Ohuia, Mangqnui district. .
