MT. ROSKILL BUS FARES.

A deputation of Mount Roskill Eoad residents to-day waited upon Messrs Andrew, Sons and Co., with reference to the increase in fares on their Mount. Roskill 'bus service, especially with respect to the imposition of fourpeuny fares beyond Prospect Terrace, and the increased price of tickets. The deputation were respectfully received by Messrs Fenton and Fordyce, and, as the outcome of their representations it was arranged that the price of tickets be 20/ per hundred, and 2/6 per dozen beyond Prospect Terrace, single fares to be fourpenee. The company's representatives could not see their way to make any concession with respect to the fares now charged for shorter distances. It was pointed out, in support of the increased charges, that the price of horses and the rate of wages had increased considerably during the past year, and that the company had actually been running at a loss. They hoped to recoup themselves by increasing fares, but members of the deputation urged that this would be against the interests of the district, and in tho long run would be no gain to the company. The deputation expressed their appreciation of the concession made, bat still strenuously objected to thd single fare beyond Prospect Terrace being retained at fourpence. Special attention was called to the overcrowding of 'buses. Th(j deputation were assured that this was against the rules of the company, a.nd that drivers had been, specially instructed not to taka more than their licensed number. The 'bus drivers had themselves to pay fines inflicted for overcrowding1. A member of the deputation said if the company were serious in the determination to stop overcrowding, they could rely upon assistance from the public to secure evidence necessary to obtain convictions. The deputation included Captain. . Walker, Messrs E. Atkin, H. E. Cooke, W. Phillips, Tregascis, and* A. S. Reid.
