REMARKS BY THE CHIEF JUSTICE* (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent} WELLINGTON, this-day. In suspending for a term of two | years the discharge of a bankrupt named James Patterson, who had bolted from his creditors at Stratford, the Chief Justice remarked that the.bankrupt had no right to go away from Stratford without consulting h^^M creditors. It .was unfortunate that business people gave Credit recklessly. He would like it understood that be would'not give the Court's assistance towards discharge to people who Tan away from their creditors- There were certain bad features about tins case, but he had not the power, to punish the debtor. He would like ta see the Court given by Parliament &« power to punish certain bankrupts instead of" merely suspending their ais*. charges . •. , , :
