PANIC IN THE SULTAN'S PALACE

CONSTANTINOPLE, April 1

The earthquake in Constantinople occurred during- the annual Mahommedan festival of Bairam.

High officials were passing before the Sultan's throne when portions of the ceilings and chandeliers fell, causing a panic. . The musicians rushed to the doors and the Sultan rose, but again reseated himself and ordered the ceremony to proceed.
