A certain regiment had a very small bend; the commanding officer's feet were—well, very large. One day tho regiment was to march out, bun the music was not forthcoming. "Where on earth is the band?" queried the adjutant. For some time there wa? no reply, but when the question \vas repeated a gruff voice was heard frqnj the rear rank: "I believe, sor, the colonel trod on it by accident." And even the adjutant himself smiled.
Ethelberta: "I want a pair of slip, pers for pr. Number tens, please, and—squeaky." Shoemaker: "Squeaky, miss? I'm afraid we haven't any of that kind." Ethelberta: "I am so sorry. Couldn't you make him a squeaky pair? There is_ a Certain young gentleman who visits me frequently, and—and it would be very convenient for him to know just when pa is coming."
