SEVENTH CONTINGENT.
DUNEDIN, Wednesday,
The Otago and Southland sections of the Seventh Contingent left by the Northern express this morning to catch the Zealandia at Lyttelton tonight, Captain Hislop being in charge as far as Wellington. Two of the selected did not turn up, their places heirig filled without ceremony by Wm. Lochhead, of Mornington, and James Stewart, formerly of Melbourne, now of Dunedin. Sjergeant Dobson, of the Waikari Rifles, was appointed non-commissioned- officer in charge of the Otago section, and Sergeant Munro in charge of the Southland section. The men were addressed by Colonel Webb and the Mayor. The former, in, his speech, reminded the men of the anniversary of,the surrender of Cronje, and said when the Sixth left many said they would be the last, but here is the Seventh, and possibly there may be other contingents. In point of fapt, W are so bound up with the Empire that whenever the Empire is engaged in war, colonials will feel bound to •send their contingents to assist.
WELLINGTON, this clay. Captain. N. L. D. Smith, formerly of the Hotchkiss Battery, has been Placed in charge of the Newtown camp. Lieut. Aitken Connell has been appointed acting-lieutenant, and Staff Sergeant-Major McDonald, eanip-sergeant major.
