HUNTLY.
The Huntly School Committee met in the school on Monday evening.the Rev. J. Kgt-r----ton Ward presiding. It was unanimously it-solved to nominate and support Mr Jas. Muir's candidature for the vacancy in the Education Board.
Tho statutory meeting of the Huntly Board was held on February 23. The Treasury notified the payment of £50, Huntly University Koad grant, and £37 10/, advance of subsidy. The Walpa County Council requested the Hoard to appoint a delegate to wait on the Minister for Railways re road metal. The chairman was appointed. Letters were lead from Mr Geo. Horuood drawing attention to a portion of the road requiring repairs, and from the Taupiri Coal Mines Co. re alteration in valuation roll. Tho manager of the New Zealand railways agreed to put in a crossing in Gr.ittOtt Road, the Board to pay the'cost (£4). A petition from a large number of res-dents iv Huntly South praying for a railway crossing in North-street was read. The request was granted, tho railway authorities to be urged to do the work. The clerk wa.s instructed to procure 40 totara posts for fencing.
A Government parade was held on tho 21st, when Captain Ralph inspected the company, and Lieuts. Elliot and Shearer put the men through some useful company drill. Volley firing was finished on the 24th. The shooting wa.s not good—a marked contrast to the class firing, which is most creditable. In the latter corps 'J. Heth'erington still leads with 177. Corporal O'Loughlin, the only one who has tried, has obtained the points requisite for a marksman's badge.
