FIRE BRIGADES' CONFERENCE.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRTSTOHU B.'.'H. Tuesday. Tbo Fire Brigades' Conference resumed to-day. On the recommendation of 11.0 committee, which reported that the cost would not. exceed £100, it was resolved to hold an exhibition Of lire appliances. The question of instituting an association badge was referred to the incoming executive. The report of tlio committee appointed to inquire into the Fire Brigades Bill was brought up by Secretary Bobbins (Hawera), who stated that the taxation proposals should be adjusted so that the Government should be left out of consideration altogether, the taxes to be levied partly on insurance companies and partly on local bodies. Superintendent Smith (Christehureh) seconded the motion. Captain .Mitchell (Hokitika) thought it unfair that the Government should be left out of the taxation proposals. Secretary Martin (Gore) thought the Government should take up the matter of Stale lire insurance. The motion was carried, and Secretary Bobbins and Lieutenant Baker (Gore) wero appointed to wail on tho Government with regard tn the BUI. It was reported that Captain Mitchell illokitika i. Fireman Wallace (Hokitika). Captain Blackweil (Kaiapoi), and I-ore-man Woolcott (Wellington), had earn-,,
gold stars for 25 years' service. Invitations wen- extended by] the delenntes from Hokittka and the Blurt io hold the next conference at those places.
