(Before His Honor the Chief Justice.) ASSAULT. In the ease of Ralph Ormston, charged with assaulting Valentino Wood, so as to cause him actual bodily harm, the evidence showed that while arguing with AYood over a business matter, prisoner made use of smne insulting language. Wood retorted, whereupon prisoner struck him several blows with his fist. Wood sustained a compound fracture of the jaw, which kept him in the hospital for 37 days. Prisoner made no defence, and the jury without retiring brought in a verdict of guilty. There being nothing known against the prisoner. His Honor deferred sentence till Thursday next, in order that the Probation Officer .might report as to the character of the prisoner. THEFT FROM A DWELLING. An old man named James Johnson pleaded not guilty to stealing 15/ in money, the property of Thomas Busier, from the dwelling house of Flora lienn. After hearing the evidence the jury returned a verdict of guilty, and His Worship imposed a sentence of IS mouths' 'hard labour. THEFT. Frank Evans, an elderly man, was convicted of stealing from liemns' ! studio, a hand-bag containing a diamond and emerald ring, it purse, and I other articles, total value about ;C*-0. | the property of Phoebe Moses.
