SEVENTH CONTINGENT.

A RUSH FOR ENROLMENT

A CTOwd of fully three hundred volunteers and civilians assembled outside the Drill Hall las-t evening, when the first batch of volunteers for the Auckland section oi' the Seventh Contingent were selected.* Nearly all of the volunteer corps in the garrison were s represented among the applicants, besides a number of country corps. Lieut.-Colonel White- was in attendance, accompanied by ActingMajor Schofield, Captain Reid (District. Adjutant), Lieut. Boscawen and Sergt.-Major Carpenter. About 70 oi1 the most likely looking1 were picket! out for medical examination, the remainder being told to hold themselves in readiness if required. The medical officers, Surgeon-Major Walker and Drs. King, Goldie and Murray- passed the following twenty-six applicants: —

.Tames Thomas Campbell. Roy W. Cv minings, Alfred .1. Hill, 11. Linklater, A". Gill. VV. H. Eclkins, C. WSwanberg, F. G. Dibble, T. Cooper. W. E. Morton, W. H. Xau, 0. 0. Parker. S. Marshall, R. Beatty, 1). Bentson. C. Neil. T. Buckley. A. Young, \V. J. Farrell, H- Robertson. M Blackwell, A. D. Aitken ConneJl, A. J. Taylor, T. 11. Whimp, T. J. Coates, 11. Harrop.

This morning the men who passed the medical test at the Drill Fall, together with those who had been picked oilt but had not yp.t been medically examined, were put through I he riding test at the Domain, under the supervision of Captain Reid (District Adjutant). The riding test being allimportant, the likely candidates are being put through this first, in order to avoid going to the trouble of medically examining men who would afterwards have to be rejected on their riding. The first batch of the Auckland division will be shipped to Wellington next Monday. The shooting test will probably be held at Wellington.
