A great many business places vvere closed early in the afternoon, md others followed suit and shut :heir doors on receipt of telephone messages from the Mayor (Mr Goldie), requesting citizens to join in the demonstrations of mourning by shutting up their establishments. " All" amusements for the evening will he cancelled in Auckland, as in other parts of the Empire. A notice was posted outside the City Hall to-day stating that Mr Percy Dir3| company would not perform this evening. A royal funeral salute of 101 guns will be fired at intervals of one minute from Fort Cautley by the Permanent Artillery on the day of Her Majesty's funeral. . | The Police Court adjourned thisj morning as soon as the death of thej Queen was announced. The hell of the Town Clock, in the "N\Z. Insurance Buildings, waft tolled at intervals of one minute during this afternoon, out of respect to the memory of the departed sovereign. A national day of mourning will, no doubt, he shortly announced, probably on the day of Her Majesty's funeral.
