POLICE COURT.

Drunkenness.—For this offence John Inkster was fined 5/ or 24 hours' hard labour, and William Williams £2 or 14 days. Two first offenders were convicted and discharged.
Remanded. —Charles Ormiston was further remanded for seven days on the application of Chief. Detective Grace on a charge of assaulting-one Valentine Wood with) intent to do actual bodily harm. Detective Grace stated that Wood was not yet able to leave the Hospital. A youth named Charles Moylan, charged with assaulting Charles Nankervis with a bottle* causing actual bodily'harnij was-re-manded for a week on the application of Sub-Inspector Mitchell. The latter stated that the injured man was an inspector on the tram cars. ( Accused was a passenger on Saturday, and when asked to produce his ticket re* fused, made use of violent language, and finally struck the inspector in the neck with a bottle, inflicting a severe, gash. Mr. Baume, who appeared iot, the defence, did not oppose the remand, and the' case was accordingly, adjourned till next Monday. Bail was fixed in two sureties of £.10 each, or one" of £20. Two youths named Cairns Clarke and Edward Halford, who both pleaded not guilty, were remanded for a week on a charge of breaking a window, vahie 15/, the property of Mary Dolley. Accused were liberated on their own re* cognisances of £10 each. Theft from a Shop Door.—John Wil« son pleaded guilty to stealing, two pairs of boots, value 19/6, the property: of Frederick Moore. His Worship remarked that there was a long list of previous convictions for theft against accused. He would be sentenced to,1 three months' hard labour. ,
