SAMOAN NEWS
The "Samoan Herald" of December 29 th says: '"Gradually} Anglo-Saxon property and institutions remaining in German Samoa are passing into the hands of others, consequent on the partition of the Samoan Group by the Great Powers. It is slightly over two years since the editorship of the "Weekly Herald" was placed under our control. On January 2nd, this journal and its good will are to be handed over to a syndicate consisting of several German merchants who have joined in the purchase of the 'Samoan Weekly Herald.' The use of the German lang-uage will be a feature of the new issue of the paper, but" English subscribers, advertisers, and contributors are promised ample space will be devoted to news, correspondence, advertisements", and articles in the English language. . The Governnor, with Mr \V. Ij. Osborn, American Consul-General, and Mr T. Trood, Vice-British Consul, have been ' busy distributing the money awarded by the Powers for the guns given up after the late war.
