COROMANDEL, this day,
An all nations fair and fancy fete organised in aid of the funds of the Church of England will be opened here this week. The fair, which will be held in the district school building's, will continue open for a week, and promises to be a great success. The ladies connected with the church have been busily engaged for some time preparing for the bazaar. It is proposed to entertain the Hon. Mr McGowan on the occasion of his visit here, and a public meeting is convened to decide the form of the entertainment. The funeral of the late Mr James McGuire took place yesterday afternoon large numbers following the remains to their last resting place people iourneying from all parts of the district to attend. Requiem mass was said over the remains at St. Coleman's Eoman Catholic Church, by the Rev. Father Egan, who also conducted the burial service. Many floral tributes were received by the family from all parts of the district, testifying to the general esteem in which the late Mr McGuire was held.
The monthly meeting of the Wesleyan Band of Hope was held in the Wesleyan Church last evening, there being a large attendance, Mr B. B. Johnson presiding. A very good programme of vocal and instrumental music and recitations was submitted. Masters Tudehope and Cartlett (2), of Auckland, rendered several items, as also did Misses Bright and Mr Chappel. At the conclusion a hearty vote of thanks was accorded the visitors who assisted.
