Warlow Davies, M.A., of Sydney, under whose ministry the church at Beresford-street was origin* ally-built. \ The foundation of the building' for a branch of the Auckland Saving's Bank <\t Devonport was laid this afternoon by Mr J. M. Shera, Sice-presi-dent of that institution, in the presence of a. number of ladies and gentlemen, including- Dr. ,J. L. Campbell, one of the original founders of the institution, and Mr R. Cameron, manage]-. Ml" Shera, in laying' the stone, referred to the gTeat progress made by the Bank. ,He, was presented with a handsome mallet and silver trowel suitably inscribed. Short addresses were also made by Dr. Campbell and the Mnyov of Devonport, Mr ,T. C. Macky. Messrs Philcox and Sons are the contractors for the building1, and Mr IS. Bart-ley the architect. The bank will be situated in the main street near the Flagstaff Hotel, and almost facing- the site of the Boroug-h Council Chambers. The body of the late Mr. John Abbott, was brought from Takapuna this afternoon by special boat. The : interment, which took place at St. Stephen's cemetery, Parnell, was of a, private nature, only deceased's family and a few personal friends being present. The chief mourners were the h"ve sons of deceased at present in Auckland. The Rev. George Mac Murray conducted the service at the grave.
