ELECTRIC TEAMS.
THE WELLINGTON SCHEME,
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)' j
WELLINGTON, this day
A Press representative interviewed Mr Ferguson, secretary of the Wellington Harbour Board, re the overhead electric trams system proposed to be adopted here. Mr Ferguson said: "The best system which could bo established here would be the overhead trolly system. It might not be," he added, "the most inexpensive, but it would certainly be the most effective that could be adopted, all things considered, in a city like Wellington." Mr Ferguson suggested extension of the tram system to the suburbs in order to develop Wellington's properties. He says, finally: If the people of Greater Wellington want to provide themselves with, an adequate and comprehensive service they must be prepared to put their hands in their pockets' to some purpose; that it is essential the City Council should at once .grasp-the situ-. ation, and refuse to. let the matter drop before some definite working plan of operations has been evolted and entered upon; that the leading men of the city must throw off their, lethargy, and come forward with a fixed determination of assisting the. corporation representatives to carry out an acceptable scheme which may. be decided upon; that the city-engi-neers report on the question which is, coming Ward in a few days and shall b e gW sound and sympathetic consideration.
