A MILITARY MUDDLE.
Till'] CASE OP GENERAL COLVILLE
(lleeeived 9.14 a.m.)
LONDON, December 28
When Major-General Sir 11. JO. CoiVille was ordered home from South 'Africa in July last, shortly after the capture of: the Irish Yeomanry at Lindley, an inquiry held at the War Oflic'e resulted in his reinstatement to the command of the. infantry at Gibraltar.
Sir Evelyn Wood, the Aeiing-Com-maiHler-m-Chief, now requests General Colville to resign. Colvillc declines to do so, and he is returning to England.
The "Times" suggests the seriousness of Mr St. John Broclrick overriding the decision, of the Marquis of Lansdowne, the former Secretary of War, unless fresh evidence has been obtained justifying such a step.
