Mr Frank O'Meara, of Auckland, has been appointed temporarily in charge of the Union Company'.s local oflic1, until Mr Cramond, the new manager, returns from the Islands. Mr J. W. Cargill, the late manager, who is transferred to Greymouth, was this afternoon made the subject of a presentation of a purse of sovereigns and a flattering address.
Capt. Tucker with a party of, men leave to-day for Campbell Island, which 'lie has taken over. The steamer lliniu will take them, with 2,000 sheep from Dunediu. NEW PLYMOUTH, this day. The Taranaki " Herald's " correspondent writes that a Maori named Sidney lloekau was drowned on Friday afternoon at Cape Egmont. A party of four Maoris were fishing in a. Canoe. Hoekau, who was steering, fell overboard, and the canoe filled and capsized. The others reached the shore safely.
