ESCAPED CONVICTS.
FATAL ENCOUNTER WITH POLICE
SYDNEY, this day.
Advices from Noumea state that a party of French convicts escaped into the "bush, and that in an encounter with the police one was killed and several wounded on each side. Several of the gang are still at large, stealing cattle and burning houses.
