Owing to the scarcity of efficient men I had to take on incompetent hands, and pay them as skilled men at a weekly wage, and much time was lost through bad weather. Owing to these unfortunate circumstances, I lost £106 8/7 on the contract, besides my own labour for 35 weeks. I started witn £20, part of which was spent on tools, and the rest went for wages. My debts amount to £ 230 9/, of which £48 is preferential for wages men. My only asset consists .of £124 0/5, balance due on th e contract, and about £5 worth of tools, and I cannot suggest anything in the way of. compromise.
