MKRCEK, tliis day
Mercer to-day is all astir busily preparing for the regutta, which takes place on Saturday. The Maoris are flocking- in from all parts. The Waikato Jtiver is looking- its best, and an enormous crowd of excursionists is. expected.
An imposing sight at the regatta will be a grand procession of canoes and boats which takes place immediaiely'on arrival of the last, special train from town. This will be followed by negro or war dance by the Maoris in their canoes, singing- their war songs, and keeping- time with precise regularity by- strokes and flourishes of the paddles. •
