The following petition is being circulated for signature in the city: —
"To the chairman of the Auckland and Wellington Railway League arid the President of'the Auckland CJiamber of Commerce: Wi\ the undersigned, residents in the provincial district of Auckland, being dissatisfied at the. estimates presented to the House of Representatives,-, showing the ajio'catipa of publiqjrmds for the completion of, the IN Torf:h' Island Trunk line iiqf' railway and various district railways in, the North Island,-., respectfully, request you to call a public meeting' of the inhab'Uauts iof the city and surrounding (listriets for the purpose of protesting against the uniaix.and .unjust action ..of... the Government in its treatment of the ■ Xorth Island, which contains the larger part of the population and contributes the larger amount to the public revenue of the two main islands of the colony.". . .
