CRICKET.
AUCKLAND CRICKET ASSOCIATION.
The annual meeting of the Auckland Cricket Association Was held last evening at the Amateur Sports Club. There was a lair attendance of delegates. Mr C. E. S. McKlnney presided.
The annual report stated that three matches had been played by the Auckland representative team. The. matches against Wellington and Otago were won by the local team, but the match against the Melbourne C.C. proved a very easy win for the visitors. In the local contest for the senior championship the United Club won after a very severe fight with Auckland and Parnell. The second and third grade championships resulted in a win for the Auckland C.C, while fourth grade honours were secured by the Ponsonby C.C. The committee drew attention of both cricketers and the Auckland public to the fact that visits were owing to Otago, Wellington, Canterbury and Hawke's Bay Associations.'» Subscription lists had been opened so that everyone might have an opportunity of contributing to the touring fund. The bat for the highest average in senior cricket has been awarded to Mr D. Hay, who had the really excellent average of ; 74.12. The bowling prize was secured by Mr R. Neill The thanks of the Association were due to'the members of the Umpires' Association, and also to the Scorers Association, who undertook their onerous duties free of charge. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £19 5/2, the thanks of. the Association being due to the Rugby Union for their kind contribution to the funds-of the gate prooeefls at Potter's Paddock on June 5. The report and balance-sheet were adopted as read. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as fallows:—President. Mr James Russell; vice-presidents, Messrs C. W. Hennery and C. S. McKinney.: lion, secretary Mr G. H. Broughton; hon. treasurer, Mr E. J. G. F. Greville; management'committee, Messrs F. J. Ohlson, W. T. Wynyard, J. B. Kyd, C. Hay and PS C. Beale. Mr C. S. McKinney was nominated as one of the vice-presidents of the New Zealand Cricket Council, and Messrs R. J. Bunby and J. N. Fowke appointed delegates. Mr H. Brett's trophies for best batting and bowling averages in the senior grade last, season were presented to D. Ho.y and R. Neill, whose respective averages were 7-U2 and 10.5S for 50 wickets. Trophies for the coming season were offered by Messrs H. Brett. T. and S. Morriri and Co., and others: Five new" clubs—Northern, Grey Lynn, Arch Hill, Pitt-street and Avondale —were.elected.. On the motion of Mr Lundon, the incoming committee were ihr structed- to consider the advantage or otherwise of adopting a district scheme. Votes of thanks were tendered to the outKoinfi' officers and to the Chairman.
The Managing Committee of tho Association will- meet on Wednesday of each week at 5. p.m., when all matters which have been referred to the Committee for their consideration during the previous week will be investigated. Entries for. avl grades, with subscriptions, must be handed to the hon. secretary (Mr Q. H. Broughton) at the Sports Club by Saturr day evening.
On the motion of Mr Broughton, it was decided to alter Rule 8, sub-section b, so that each club entering an team in any grade shall pay a subscription of 10/6 for that team.
