SHOOTING AFFRAY.

BETSBANE, September 4.

A serious shooting affray occurred about 8 o'clock to-night at the residence of Mr J. S. Henderson, of Rock-ham-p-on, the OAvner of Casuarina Island, lately of Marchamt, A jockey, who had been disqualified for suspicious riding art a meeting of the Bockhampton Jockey Club, appealed to the committee, and the committee, :of AA'hich Mr Henderson is a. member, considered the application at its meet* ing this afternoon. About an hour afterwards'the jockey, while in. the i street, is said to have made threats |to shoot all the members of the. comimittee, but this was regarded as the idle talk of an angry man.' Later in the evening he Avas seen in an hotel Avith a loaded revolver, arid -there, he repeated his threats. The revolve.. Avas taken fropi him. About eight o'clock he drove, to Mr Henderson's house in a cab, sending the cabman in for Mr Henderson, who came but. The jockey asked him from, the cab' if he Avas going to-remove, "the di_qualification. Mr Henderson replied that -h.could not. The jockey said, "Then I'll shoot you," and is alleged^ to have discharged the. revolver at Mr Henderson, Avounding him in the stomach. The jockey then jumped out of the cab and ran away. Nothing has been seen of him since. Doctors were immediately summoned to attend to Mr Henderson. All efforts to extract the bullet up to a late hour to-night proved futile. The extent of the injuries is not yet knoAA'n.
