The natives of the Lydenburg iaistrict threaten to prevent. Commandant Botha crossing the Streelpoort River, which runs a few miles ,west of the town of Lydenburg. Already they are looting the Boer cattle. Since August 25 General Buller's casualties have totalled 270. [This , includes the fighting at Dalmamttha, of which Bullers force bore the brunt.] The Boers have lost many more. ; LOjS tDO^ t, September 5. Kruger has protested to Lord Salisbury and the Powers against the annexation of the Transvaal. A severe skirmish between the ( •Boers and the Ivaffrarian Kiflesjoc- ; curred at Kwaggasfont on Friday, i Five of the Kifles were killed and j 19 wounded.
