A body of colonial troops marchjn<r from Zeerust, in the Western Transvaal, to Krugersdorp, vest of ■, Johannesburg, were stubbornly op- ,; posed. • The Boers lost heavily. Major Brooke and 100 men defeated the Boers at Krail railway station, between Heidelberg and ■'. .Grelingstad, on the Natal-Transvaal '■railway. Five,of the enemy were killed. Commandant Theron's commando of mixed nationalities is assisting in looting farmers and storekeepers. There is a large commando on the ;Yet Kiver. '•Ex-Presidents Kruger and Steyn * are living in railway carriages at .iNelspruit,- on the Delagoa railway. The carriages are covered by Eed 'Cross hoods... , LONDON, September 3. ;. The Boers on August 31 vainly ■ attempted to destroy the Johannesburg waterworks. General Hart surprised and defeated them.
