BOROUGH MEETINGS.

DEVONPORT.

The ordinary meeting of the Devonport Borough Council was held last evening, when there were present Messrs J. C. Macky (Mayor), E. W. Alison, M. Nlccol, G. A. Creeth, It, Lognn, jun., W. Handley, J. Dunning, R. H. Duder, O. Mays, and J. C. Bntricnn. Sewer Connections.—Mr H. JMetcalfe, tho drahiagee works engineer, Informed the Council that he considered £100 a fair price for the extra work which would devolve upon him in regard to the sewer connections with all the houses In the borough. It would involve about six months' attention.—lt was decided to accept Mr Metcalfe's proposal. High-street.—A complaint was made by R. S. C. Joues regarding the state of Highstreet, where a footpath was much needed. —Referred to Streets and Works Committee. Abbotsford Terrace.—A complaint was received from .the residents of Abbotsford Terrace regarding the state of that road. A footpath was badly needed. A street lamp was also asked for.—Referred to Streets und Works Committee. Lake Road.—G. R. Banks wrote complaining of the bud state of the footpath ia Lake Road.—Referred to Streets and Works Committee. Coulson's Contract.—M, Coulson wrote applying for the balance of the amount due to him on his drainage contract. The Council had retained the. balance due him owing to a claim made by Messrs Alison Bros, for £105 on account of the loss of a mare by falling into an excavation made by Coulson. Alison Bros, agreed to make a reduction of £21 in their claim, as a concession to Coulson,—The Council agreed to make a similar concession of £21 In their claim, on the motion of Mr M. Niccol, who Said Messrs Alison Bros, had acted generously In the matter. Driver's License.—The Council decided to grant a driver's license to Quentin J. BeresDralnage Works.—Mr H. Metcalfo submitted plans and specifications for drainage contract No. 12 (Sunnyside district), consisting of the construction of about 3| miles of pipe sewer.—lt was decided to call for tenders for the work. Cheltenham Beach Reserve.—The Streets and Works Committee submitted a plan and particulars in connection with the fencing and laying out of Cheltenham Reserve. —The Council decided to adopt the plans and specifications, the fence on the western side to be continued on ithe street line. Tenders.—The Council opened tenders for No -11 contract, drainage works. The tenders which were at schedule prices, were handed to Mr Metcalfe for examination. He reported that the tenders worked out as follows:-Win. Henry, £1866 6/8, S. White £1977 10/2; Mays and Gordon, £2057 5/10. The tender of Wm. Henry was^accepted.
