Mr Turnbull, S.M., gave judgment for defendant with costs in the case Ruscoe v. Holt, in which plaintiff sought to recover moneys deducted from wages for accident insurance duringvthe last six .years. The decision was. based on the ground that plaintiff raised no objection, until he left Holt's employ, tacitly consenting, and that the Wages Protection Act was not retroactive, and did not apply to moneys paid, before it came into force, such payments being until then expressly exempted from the operation of the Truck Act. WELLINGTON, this day. Tire Executive of the' National Dairy Association is approaching the Taranaki Freezing Works Company to ascertain the terms on which the company's works at Moturoa can be secured. The Association considers the freezing of butter can be better done if controlled by producers. If the result of negotiations is not satisfactory, the Association will consider the advisability of erecting works of its own. Frank Voss for attempted burglary Was to-day sentenced to six months' imprisonment. . WANGANUI, this day. A serious accident happened to W. S. JDustin, the well-known caterer, at the "Waverley ball Friday nig-ht. He slipped on the floor and cut arteries in his right wrist by falling on broken glass. He was brought into a private hospital, where an operation will be performed. WESTPORT, this day. I The coal export from Westport last week was 9288 tons, of which the Westport- Coal Company exported 8492 tons 17cwt, and the Westport Co-operative Company 795 tons 13cwt. GREYMOUTH, this day. .The export for last week was:— Blackball Company, 1881 tons coal; Brunner Company, 2724 tons coal, 45 tons lcwt coke, 20 tons 6cwt bricks. , HOKITIKA, this day. An eleven-romed cottage on Gibson Quay, lately occupied but at present tenant-less, owned by Mrs Cooke, was burned down at 7.30 last night. The cause of the, fire is a mystery. The insurance on the dwelling is £300 in the National.
