The Thames Borough Council carried a unanimous vote of ' thanks to the Walhl band for their visit to the Thames >and giving a concert in aid of the: Hospital Building Fund, resulting in a collection of £20. 10/. - ~ THE CHEMISTRY OE EXPLOSIVES. A lecture on "The Chemistry of Explosives" was given at the V.M.C.A. Rooms last evening by Dr. Maclaurln, in connection with the winter course of entertainments. Professor F. D. Brown presided, and ln Introducing the sneaker said that In the field of chemical research Dr. Maclaurln had established a reputation -which extended far beyond New Zealand. The lecturer gave a description of explosives, and showed how they arose. He described the different forms of explosives, and also gave an account of explosions In coal mines, etc. The lecture was Illustrated by a number of experiments.
