TROOPERS' LETTERS.
The following letter has been received by Mr W. S. Allen, Anna.ndale, from his son. Mr W. Allen: —
"I left the Yeomanry luid joined the South Australian Mounted Itifles of the 16th May, which was fortunate, for me, as the 47th company lia.vc since been taken prisoners. W,e did the whole 6f the advance guard work for the seventh division, during the march from Kroonstacl to Pretoria, and took part in all the fighting. 1 have been very fortunate in not getting hit. At Klandsfontein my glasses were smashed by a bullet. At Pretoria my horse was shot, and at Diamond Hill my pocket was shot through. I have now been in three big battles and about half a dozen skirmishes. It is awfully cold .here at nights now. We get 8 to 10 degrees of frost, and our blankets are quite stiff in the mornings."
