At a meeting".of,the Chamber of Commerce it was resolved to adopt the resolution passed by the Christchurch Chamber, calling attention to the injustice of putting" the reduced < tariff into immediate operation and suggesting that it should not come into force until January next. The Chairman said, with respect to the Premier's argument that those who were now objecting said nothing of the rise in value of their stocks when the tariff Avas increased, that the Premier would iind the rise did not come into force for a long time. :^f attempts were made to impose it c\ stocks in hand purchasers would have resisted, just as they insisted on reduction when the duty was lowered.
