A VICTORY FOR LANCASTER.
The following are details of the running for the Malakoff Stakes at the V.A.T.C. Grand National Meeting, won by the Wellington Park bred Lancaster:—
MALAKOFF STAKES, of 120sovs; second 15sovs; third 5 soys. One mile and three furlongs.
I. Foulsham's Lancaster, by Hotch-kiss-Frailty, 4yrs, 7.4 (Lewis) 1 Jno. Leek's Ingllston, 4yrs, 7.1 (Cooper) 2 M. P. Whitty's Orla, aged, 7.10 (W. Minter) 3
Wait-a-Bit, aged, 8.11 (Finlay); Ballistite, Gyrs.'S.G (Walker); Town Clock, aged, 8.2 (S. Thomas); Terlinga, aged, 8.1 (R. Piper); The Musketeer, aged, 7.3 (J. Williamson); Flintlock, aged, G. 13 (W. Ross); Safety, syrs, 6.12 (G. Minter); Jerry, syrs, 6.7 (Diedrick), also started. Betting: 4 to 1 each against Ingliston and Town Clock, G to 1 each Lancaster and Wait-a-Blt, 12 to 1 each Flintlock and Orla. Ingliston jumped away, but Jerry immediately went to the front, and, setting a solid pace, led out of the straight and along the back, where he was four clear lengths ahead of Lancaster, The Musketeer, Ingliston, Terlinga, Wait-a-Bit, Flintlock and Town Clock, the last two being Safety and Orla. Jerry was caught at the railway side, and Ingliston led into the straight, but in the last few strides Lancaster got- up, and won by a neck, Orla two lengths and a-half away, followed by Flintlock, Town Clock, Terlinga, Wait-a-Bit, Ballistite and The Musketeer, with Safety last. Time, 2min 28Jsec.
