The country now being penetrated is a little softer owing to a break running at an acute angle with the drive. IRONCAP. During the week gold has been seen I when pounding the stone from the reef. After being burned the ore showed a nice prospect. The drive has passed through a break which did not displace the reef. A distance of 184 ft has been driven on the Kaiser reef from the surface. MINING DIVIDENDS. The Waitekauri G.M. Co.'s dividend was paid to-daj' at the office, Short-land-street. The total amount to be distributed is £10,500. The Waihi Company has declared a dividend of 2/6 per share, payable on the Ist of September next, which means the disbursement of another £40,000 amongst shareholders. This will make the total dividends paid by the Waihi Company amount to about £519,000. KAPOWAI. No. 1 level is in 35ft. A few small silica veins have been met with during the last few days, which underlie towards No. 1 reef. The country in the face continues hard, and if it changes for the better, the manager expects to intersect fhe reef in about a fortnight. No. 2 level is in 76ft. On breaking down, it proved to be 2J to 3ft wide, and gold can be seen well distributed through the quartz. Good dish, prospects were also obtained both by pounding and washing. WAIHI EXTENDED. A surface drive Has been put in 70ft and holed through to the shaft to drain off fhe water, which Otherwise would go down the shaft. Sinking will be resumed at the end of the week. IMPERIAL. Six tons bulk sample of ore from No. 2 reef have been bagged ready to send to Paeroa for treatment, but at present the river is too high for the waggon to cross. A reef formation has been intersected in the eastern crosscut.. It crosses the face at right angles and it? situated 19ft east of No ; 2 reef. This lode is fully six inches wide, and is composed of rich veins Of quartz, gold being freely seen in the ore, which also gives excellent dish prospects. The manager suggests that SOOcwt of this ore from the new reef be sent to the Thames for treatment.
