NEWMARKET.
The ordinary meeting of the Newmarket Borough Council was held last evening, there being present Mr John McColl (the Mayor), and Crs. W. C. Rose, J. It. Caston, W. Edgerley, F. Bennett, Geo. Smerdon, and A. Seeeombe. Special Meeting.—The minutes of a special meeting to amend the burgess list for the election of Councillors oti 13th September were confirmed. Three tenders were received for the removal of dust and house refuse, viz., A. Higgins, John Peach, E. Stockley, and J. Burke and Co. Tho tender of J. Burke and Co. was accented, the tender being 15/ per - week, extra IJd per foot. York-street.—Mr E. Lowp wrote asking the Council to put a drain in York-street— On the motion of the Mayor It wns agreed to inform the writer that tho question of drainage in the whole borough would be considered at an early date. Huntly Avenue.—Mrs? Palmer wrote thnt she had received a notice from the borough for rates. She pointed ■ out that she was without road and gas.—lt was agreed to inform the writer that the borough had taken over the road, and thnt her property was rateable. Bennett said the flrnlm had been opened in Park Avenue, and It was found to be free from silt. The trouble of overflow of water Into Glasgow Terrace did not arise from Park Avenue. Melnneslon Mission.—with reference to n street taken over by the Council on the Melanesian Mission property. It was agreed ■to nsk the Trust to channel the approach to the road. Kyber Pass Rond.—The question of widening Kyber Pass Road wns deferred until ■next meeting. Newmarket Hall.—The sub-committee anpolnted to report on the state of tho Newmarket Hull recommended renovation.painting, etc.—The report was adopted.—Mr Geo. Bishop's tender for the work* wns accepted.
