A BIBLICAL DISCUSSION.
(To the Editor.)
Sir,—Will you permit me space for my final letter on "A Biblical Discussion?" Mr John Nicholson, In your issue to-day, says he hopes "Mr Mitchell will be more convincing: than Mr Rimmer was on Thursday night." In a former letter Mr Nicholson offered me a hundred pounds if I "would prove what he asked me." That was rather a big order, sir, so I replied in your paper that I would give a lecture, and in it would endeavour to prove what I had promised, viz., "That God had fulfilled His promise in foretelling the future." Now, on Thursday night, at least an hour I occupied in quoting His prophecies and showing- how, literally, word for word, were they fulfilled; my witnesses being mostly Infidel writers. No one attempted to challenge the evidence, though opportunity was given to anyone. Some expressed disappointment that I had not given a scientific lecture, and that I was unwilling to answer questions outside my subject; but since I had previously in your paper, and at the commencement of the lecture," said I knew nothing of; science, that was a foolish expectation. In answer to "Gamma's" difficulty re our Lords-words—"there be some standing here that shall not taste of death till the Son of Man be coming in His kingdom"—may I say, if he will look up the three Evangelists—Matthew, Mark and Luke—he will find they each say the same thing, and Immediately after, each gives this account: "After six days Jesup
taketh Peter and James and John up into a high mountain and was transfigured before them," and there appeared Moses aiid Elijah, etc. Now, this was His kingdom in type. Our Lord was glorified. Moses was type of the risen saint, Elijah of those who will not see death, but be translated, and Peter, James and John, of those who"6n earth will participate in the same glorious manifestation. What tho disciples saw In type, or in miniature; we are expecting to see in its fulness. May I advise "Übique" to acknowledge his author when he gives forth other men's thoughts in their own words? I could give nearly a column of your paper of his pllferings from Thomas Paine without acknowledging it; even when ha hits at Mr Carter his reference to Deuteronomy, tithes, clergy and priests is copied from Thomas Paine—l am etc., . S. L,. P. RIMMER.
