In his address to the grand jury at the opening oi the criminal sessions Chief Justice Stout said he was glad to say that notwithstanding the increased population of the district there did not seem to be any iutireage in crime. No doubt this might be caused by the greater prosperity of the colony, and also by the fact that the police were careful and vigilant in the detection of crime.
