POLICE COURT.
THIS DAY.
(Before Mr H. W. Brabant, S.M.) Drunkenness.—Two first offenders were convicted and discharged.Conrad Howell was fined 5/ or 24 hours, and George Turner 10/ or 48 hours. Remanded.—A boy named Herbert Scott, alias O'Brien, was charged with stealing a cheque for £8 2/6, the property of Herbert Spencer; also, with stealing a suit of clothes and a pair of boots, the property of the Direct Supply Company. Accused was remanded till the 21st Inst.— A man named Francis Hughes, charged with attempting to break and enter the shop. of William Hall, Queen-street, was remanded till Wednesday. "Ball was allowed in two sureties of. £20 each.— Thomas Jackson was remanded till Wednesday on a charge of threatening behaviour in a public place, whereby a breach of the peace was occasioned. Damage to Property.— A boy named Charles Nicholson was ordered to pay 10/ and costs (3/) for throwing a bottle to the damage of a door, the property,of Daniel Evans.—Another boy, charged with wilfully damaging the fence of the Auckland ; .College and Grammar School, by throwIng stones at it, was discharged with a caution. . Cycling on the Footpath.—George Henning pleaded1 guilty to cycling on the !■ fpotpath in Manukau Road, Epsom. Defendant said the road was so bad that his machine actually got stuck in the mud. Fined 10/ and costs. Stray Horse.—Patrick V. Cahill was fined 10/ and costs for depasturing a horse on unenclosed land. No License.—Thomas McDonald, who did. not appear, was convicted, of plying for hire as a porter without a1 license. Sub-Inspector Wilson said the defendant had practically defied the by-laws all the year. It was his^fifth offence this year. A fine of 40/. in default 14 days was inflicted. Committed for Trial.—A small boy named Walter Joseph William Thorpe was charged with having, on August 10th, attempted to break and enter the dwelling of George Creamer, with intent to commit a crime therein; also, with breaking and entering the dwelling of William H. Churton, with intent to commit a crime therein; also, with breaking and entering the dwelling of James H. Buchanan and stealing six keys, valued at 6/. ChiefDetective Grace appeared for the prosecution, and Mr Theo. Cooper for the defence. Mr Cooper said the boy had already been committed for trial on seven similar charges, and the present offences were alleged to have been committed while accused was out on bail. Counsel asked that the three charges might be heard together. This was done, and after hearing evidence His Worship committed accused for trial at the Supreme Court. Alleged Vagrancy.—A charge against Mary Dinah Pearson of being a rogue and vagabond was adjourned till the 27th inst. Dirty Yards. —Henry Jones and Kate Cassidy were each fined £1 and costs (7/) for neglecting to clean private, yards In Alexandra-street. Mr T. C. Turner, Sanitary Inspector, prosecuted. Unregistered Dog.—John McCormick was fined 10/ and costs (7/) for not registering bis dog. .
