HOLY TRINITY CHURCH.

Preaching at the Holy Trinity Church, Devonport, from Luke xii., 37, I "Blessed are those servants whom the Lord, when he cometh, shall find watching," the Rev. S. Hawthorne said in the course of his sermon: There are people who smite us with- the taunt that we are not true Christians if we give attention to the things of this world. But, my brethren, this is not what our Lord taught. What we find that Christ teaches us is practically this: After His departure His followers were to enter into life as they found it, they were to look on the world as His household, where each had his appointed office to fulfil, an j office which demands activity of character, and energy and skill, and that I all this energy, and skill and force ( were to be used on the life, work, be- | cause it was a work given by Him, and that just so far as we do thi^ work honestly and truthfully, and straightforwardly and energetically, so far we do it unto Him, and render Him service. He taught that our work in this world is appointed by Him, and that He looks l« us ft> gather gain for Him by the way we do that work. Our homes, our business, our pleasures, our wealth, our eating and drinking, our marrying and giving in marriage, are so many talents of His entrusted to our care, and our Lord looks to receive His own again with usury. Eagerly He asks for patience, industry and courage from us. Urgently He re-

quires of us that we forget Him not In daily tgil. He calls us too, to remember that He has placed this world in our hands. Are the hungry fed by us? Do we visit the sick and the prisoners? Help in Christ's name, help ail who suffer.
