VOLUNTEER NOTES.
THE VICTORIA RIFLES,
The Victoria Rifles had their monthly handicap competition on the Mount Eden range last Saturday, when 35 members competed for the various trophies. The wind blowing very strong from the right, the young shots found it very difficult to keep their rifles steady. The best range score were Privates Carlson and Tobin 31 each at .500 yards; and Sergt. Kretchmar 29 at 600 yards, Priva.te Carlson winning the first prize, a trophy presented by Mr Cos to the' first class shots, Sergeant Kretschmar taking second prize. Private Johnson won the first prize, a trophy presented by Mr H. M. Smeeton to second class shots; Corporal Pitkethley second, and Private Stacey third. Both trophies having now been wpn twice, become the property of the respective winners. The following officers were present on the range: Mr Thome, president of the Akarana R.C; Col. White, Major Schoneld, Lt. Dormer, and a number of officers of the Battalion. The following are the scores:— "A" CLASS. 500 600 Yds. Yds. Hdcp. Ttl. Pt. Carlson ' 31 25 — EC Sergt.
