DEATH OF A FAMOUS BRIGAND.

One of the few remaining- brigands in Italy (writes a Eome correspondent, of an English paper) was killed Inst Aveek near Viterbo by a peasant whom he had attempted to frighten into blackmailing a nobleman, a large landowner of the. neighbourhood. The scene occurred near Viterbo, where the brigand, Fioravanti, has long committed his depredations. Fourteen warrants for arrest on charges °f murder and robbery were out against him, and a price of £lfiO had been placed on his head. Authentic informations of his movements were hard to obtain, as the peasants of the district were afraid of revealing his movements for fear of his vengeance. The brigand's career was a very remarkable one. He was custodian of a monastery when he forsook his family and employment to join Tiburzio, one of his relatives, who had become the most audacious brigand of the Viterbo district. A few years since. Tiburzio was killed in a fight with the Carabineers, but Fioravanti contimied his murderous and rapacious career. The particulars of his habits and character are interesting. He was in his way a dandy, proud of his small feet and hands, and always carrying as an indispensable necessary of life a comb and a bottle of hairwash. In character he seems not to have possessed any of those genial traits which rendered Corbeddu and Musolino popular. Professor Lombroso has applied for permission to study Fioravanti's brain, which, it is understood, has already been sent to him.
