DEFENCE OF SHANGHAI.
HONGKONG, August 17
Great Britain is showing an inclination to send the Indian >roops to the northward, instead of landing- them at, Shanghai. British firms at that place have urged Lord Salisbury to reconsiclrr his decision, which is calculated to incite the populace. * The Consuls are equally'apprehensive of troubles unless Shanghai is adequately protected. They have recommended their respective Governments to support the landing of British troops on on international basis, reinforcing the British with other troops., Since Jiussia has undertaken the provisional administration of Neuchwang, Japan heartily supports Great Britain landing ti'6ops at Shanghai. ;
