Mr Thos. Mackenzie addressed a large meeting of farmers last night on the question of home treatment of colonial produce. He strongly denounced the Smithfield rings, and advocated fair trade, quicker communisations, and moi'e care in grading here. The colony,' he said, is now heavily handicapped by distance, but it is anticipated the opening of the Panama Canal six years hence will remedy that by,bringing the colony within three weeks of Great Britain. Mr McKenzie had an ovation' at the conclusion of his address. Unanimous resolutions of sympathy with the Hon. John McKenzie were passed.

A Fai'liamentary party numbering between forty, and fifty left, by this morning's train on a trip to Wanganui. They will take part in the opening1 of the Cosmopolitan Club to-night, and to-morrow'go for an excursion up the Wanganui River, returning to Wellington on Monday night. The lions. Ward and Can-oil are with the party. .
