LONDON, August 15. ' Two squadrons of the Victorian Mounted Infantry, under Colonel Baker, relieved a British patrol which was surrounded near Mafeking by a strong body of Boers. The iVictorians had two casualties.
Commandant Grobelar is marching on Mafeking.
General Baden-Powell destroyed the fortification* before evacuating Rustenburg, 60 miles west of Pretoria, which the Boers have reoccupied.
WELLINGTON, Thursday,
Mr Reeves cabled to the Premier, under date August 15,"11.40 p.m.: "Lord Eoberts reports that the small force at Elands River station, which was reported to have been captured jwas holding out on the 10th. There had been 67 casualties. A Queensland lieutenant was the only officer killed."
