FATAL FIRE.
CYCLE WORKS DESTROYED
PBOPEIETOB BURNED TO DEATH,
WAIMATE, this day,
Kichards' Cycle works were burned down early this morning. When the fire was discovered it had a strong hold, and there was never any hope of saving the building, which was an old one.
When the fire was got under the body of Mr J. Richards was found in the. bxirnihg debris in the oflice in a sitting posture, with the legs burnt off. Bichards had been at Morver the previous afternoon, and left there at 11.30 p.m. On returning he went to the shop with'the intention, it is supposed, of writing- a letter, leaving his bicycle outside. Neighbours heard a loud report shortly after one o'clock, as of an explosion, and at 1.45 the fire was discovered. An explosion jof aeetyline is supposed to have caused the fire. Deceased was about 23 years of- age, and was to have been" married next month. '
