OUR ART GALLERY.

(To the Editor.) *

Sir,—l saw in this morning's issue that it Is proposed to cut the Art Gallery Into three sections to get more wall space. How truly Aucklandian! Let us by all means have three attenuated boxes limed with ruoDisn. Instead of one good gallery hung with pictures of merit. Might I suggest as an alternative that some of the pictorial nonentities which possess neither artistic merit nor historical interest be given a rest from the garish light of day, as works of art worthy of wall space come to hand? Working on these lines it will be some little time before we want the boxes.—l am, etc.,

ARTIST,

August 7, 1900.
