KUAOTUNU FIELD.
RESUMPTION OF OPERATIONS,
MARIPOSA AND KAPAI VER-
MONT.
Cable ndvice has been received from London that the amalgamation of the Mariposa and Kapai Vermont properties at Kuaotunu has been decided upon.. No doubt now the work of deepening the shaft at the Mariposa mine will be proceeded with in order to teat the lower levels. The Minister for Mines has intimated that the Government is willing to contribute £ for .£ up to £500. towards the cost of v>king the Mariposa shaft, .to. a f.ur-V-w. Aanth. .nf-lOOft; also, that there is a chance of further assistance Derngforthcoming if the Government are satisfied as to the prospects, and as to the manner in which the work is carired out. When the Mariposa Gold Mining .Company ceased operations some six months ago, their shaft, which was sunk from underground at the No. 4 level, had attained a depth of 140 ft, or about 450 ft from the surface. The No. 5 level was also in hand, where several workings on the reefs were in operation.
